Chanel Lift Lumiere Firming And Smoothing Fluid Makeup

*Chanel Malaysia carries the following shades. This is $65USD on Chanel US site (link above.)

Out of curiosity, I gave it a little test run at the boutique as its name and functions sound rather similar to my HG Make Up For Ever Lift Foundation.

I find this foundation dries a little slower than my Make Up For Ever version. Colour matching was a little tricky for me as there weren't many shades to choose from. I found #12 Opaline the best match but even that is slightly on the pink side. Therefore, I probably won't be interested in this foundation unless my MUFE Lift is discontinued. (Touch wood!)

Remember I did a Q & A post a week ago about lady like behaviours in the public? Well, my son & I were grabbing a quick bite at Uncle Lim in Ikano Power Center near his school last Friday. I spotted a very classy looking lady opposite of our table. (I like to look at people secretly! Maybe people also do that to me! :P) She had on very beautiful makeup, nice matching clothes, shoes and etc. I couldn't help myself but admiring her while we were waiting for our food.

Then all of the sudden, she crossed her legs and started shaking one leg away!!! It was such a shock to me that I nearly chocked on the hot coffee. It's dangerous enough to cross your legs while wearing a short skirt, let alone shaking one leg vigorously at the same time! My appetite dropped immediately. I was speechless!

OK, now I am finally getting into the topic for today. I am going to talk about how to take care of our lips. I open mention that I have super dry and easily chapped lips and that I can't wear matte lipsticks and etc. Well, someone wrote to me about lip care for dry lips recently so I decided to do a post on this subject based on my experiences.

1. Protect your lips against sun as you would with your face even on a cloudy day. Why? Our lips have thinner and more fragile skin compared to our face. If you would use sunscreen on your face, why do you skip this for your lips? The UV rays from the sun can damage our lips even more since they are so delicate!

My HG lip balm is this el cheapo drugstore Australia made QV Lip Balm on the right as it has SPF 20. You don't often find lip balms with SPF so high so this is definitely worth trying.

Of course there are also products like the more expensive and famous Biotherm Aquasource
Moisturizing Balm Protective Lip Care Shiny Effect SPF 8 ($15.50USD), Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF15 (63MYR) or MD Skincare Powerful Sun Protection SPF 25 Lip Balm ($18USD). But I reckon $$$ doesn't = performance so I haven't been bothered with those since I am very happy with my QV!

Besides, I trust Australian made sun protection products as the country does the most extensive researches and most stringent on regulations. :)

2. If you have any of the following habits. Get rid of them!

  • Licking your lips or pursing them tightly - promotes lips drying and aging.
  • Peeling off the dead skin on the lips - causes lips direct damages.
  • Still applying lipsticks when the lips are dry - causes lips severely dehydrated
and speed up drying and cracking.
  • Using only facial tissues to clean lip makeup - tissues don't remove the oil in lip products properly. Always use a proper lip makeup remover. My experience taught me that an oil based remover works best as oil removes oil.

  • 3. Prep your lips before applying lip makeup. If there are obvious lines on the lips, it is not possible to disguise them completely even if you apply lip glosses on. Not only the poor finish, but it's also bad for your lips. Therefore, it is very important to prep your lips properly before adding makeup. You can try dipping in an oil or cream based lip balm (not the stick type) with a cotton swab, then onto the lines. The oil or cream type lip balms (i.e. Eucerin Aquaphor) have deeper and faster penetration power than a stick type. Personally, I avoid lip balm sticks in general as they are not as lips skin friendly.

    4. Care for the lips when they are cracking. This is what I do.

  • Softening the lips with a warm towel for few minutes. This helps removing dead skin.
  • Brushing the dead skin with a toothbrush with soft bristles.
  • Applying a hydrating lip balm (again oil or cream base) all over lips.

  • For this treatment, I use Colonial Dames Pure Vitamin E Oil. As this oil is very sticky, I have to dab it onto my lips slowly. This offers an overnight effect. I wake up to see soft and plump lips. :)

I am sure there are more ways of looking after your lips. I'd like to hear your little tricks! We dry lips girls need brainstorming! :)

Hahaha, shaking leg is one of the worst!!! I hate it.

o_O? Did she need to use the restroom?? How strange.

Thank you for all the tips on taking care of dry lips. I also have very dry, chapped lips, so I will try and find a vitamin E oil for my lips now. I have tried many, many, many things for my lips and one of my favorite is Physician's Formula Plump Potion. It's an extremely sticky, thick gloss, but it's really good for moisturizing and softening my lips enough that I can gently exfoliate away the dead skin. Everything else I've tried just rips my lips to pieces. I'm still looking for an HG balm and sunscreen though. Nothing seems moisturizing enough & I am allergic to chemical sunscreens, so that crosses off most lip balms with SPF. =/

LOL thanks for sharing a great good laugh :)

I am intrigued with your QVC lip balm, your HG ha? it must be good!

    Thanks for the lip tips!

I'm an offender of some lip crimes :( since I have eczema on my lips I have a tendency to peel and lick!! >.<

i have to get into the habit of applying lipbalm before bed now. I always have dry lips nowadays.

Have you tried Kiehl's lipbalm? They have one that comes with SPF 15. I'm gonna pick up the normal one with SPF 4 to try out sometime.

Catherine: That's too bad (about SPF)... And thanks for sharing your HG product with us. We don't have PM here but I am sure others may benefit from it. :)

Askemwhats: Not sure if you can get it in your country but I have seen it online shipped world wide but of course they marked up the price of the lip balm itself to justify the postage. *_*

Connie: If you have eczema, you should care your lips even more carefully! No peeling for you!

Adeline: Kiehl's lipbalm is actually the product I intend to try next. However, I have been to its Boutique a couple of times but I can't make myself spending that much for a tube when my el cheapo HG is working so well. Maybe one day... :P
